Stacey Kirby, Fine Artist and MuralistI was born and raised in rural Western New York, where I continue to live and work. I began my college education with two years at SUNY New Paltz studying fine art before transferring to Montserrat College of Art. I received my BFA in Illustration five minutes from the ocean. At graduation I was awarded both faculty choice and student's choice for Best Illustrator, Class of 2003. After graduation I decided to focus on murals. I have been painting murals on everything from corrugated metal siding to brick and many standard walls for eight years now. I have learned that every project uses all of your experience, and every project teaches you something completely new! It's a fun job. Part of the reason I enjoy painting murals is the satisfaction of taking the request of a client, expressed generally as ideas and desires, and realizing it in paint ... beyond their expectations. When you are open to the creativity of an artist, the results will always be greater than the sum of that artist’s talents and your own ideas.
I also enjoy plein air painting in my free time. Over the next several years I plan to develop and exhibit a collection of fine art installations and maybe start getting back into illustration. Opportunities such as the galleries Marti's on Main in Albion and Shawn's Gate in Medina, the Orleans County Art Trail and this very group (Artists of The Oak) have made it exciting to be an artist in Orleans County! I hope you enjoy our work. Stacey Kirby is a founding member of Artists of The Oak. For more information please visit her official website and blog. << -- Return to Artists of The Oak Home Page. |
